*On Friday we finally got the 'white title' for the van in the mail. I say finally, only because it took exactly ONE month to get them and I think you only have exactly ONE month to register your car at the BMV.
Yesterday I got the treat of going to the BMV and registering my car. My wait wasn't long, as I found a BMV (courtesy of Michelle) that literally has NO WAIT and NO LINES. My children were fairly well behaved aside from Alli sneaking some of those alcohol wipes from the eye testing machines. The one thing that I was miffed at was the fact that just because I signed for the car without Chip there (thinking it would just save some time and energy of Chip driving all the way up to the dealership), we had to get BRAND NEW plates for the car! I finally after 6 years of having those plates got them memorized! The nerve of these people. I also just paid last month to have the plates renewed! Had I known I wasn't keeping the plates I would have driven with expired tags. (Well, probably not as I am paranoid..... but you know what I mean) Also by getting new plates that are registered under my name only, it means that I can't renew the plates for both together. It goes by your birthday. Mine: October. Chip: February.
I asked the lady behind the counter what I should do with my old plates. She said they are still valid and I should hang on to them, as they are registered for another year. If we are to get a third luxury car, I could just put these plates on the new car. Since I'm going to be getting my Maserati this year, I should hang on to those plates.
*We also got our court summons for that lovely $500 ticket. Our date is April 17th at 3pm. I am going to be working hard with Chip on his puppy dog eyes and eye lash batting. I think that might win the judge over.
I am hoping that even though our city is facing a deficit and is laying off people, the courts won't take that fact into consideration. I mean $500 would nicely restock a room with BIC pens and copier paper.
Cross your fingers and wish us luck as the date comes closer.
*I finally finished a top quilt that I've been putting off for the past 6 months. It's the black and white version of the fall colored quilt that I made in December. As soon as I take pictures I'll post them. Chip thinks it is one of the best quilts that I have made so far. I think I am making him into a quilting connoisseur.
*Finishing that quilt got me into a quilting phase again. It's nice being productive. I've been putting together blocks from a block of the month club that I'm a part of. It has been going since October. I just finished the first two blocks last night. I guess I'm a bit behind, but that is only to be expected from me. Only 5 more blocks to go on that quilt, and another 7 blocks of the same quilt, only different colors. (I couldn't choose which color scheme to go with, so I did both. Why do I do this to myself time and again?)
Looks like if all goes well I can finish all of my quilting projects in the year 2031.
(That is if I have no more children and I don't acquire any more fabric or projects)

Happy Earth Hour

Did everyone know that today was Earth Hour Day?
At 8:30pm (your local time) you are supposed to turn off all lights for one hour. By doing this we are supposed to be doing something good for our planet. I'm not really sure of all the figures, but I know they've been figured out. :)
Chip and I did Earth Half Hour.
The other half of the hour we celebrated Human Achievement Day. Where we celebrate all of the wonderful achievements that human's have made... like electricity.
Visit to Cleveland
On Friday I took Alli out of school and we went up to Cleveland to visit with Chip's Mom and Brother Jeff. Jeff was in the hospital up there undergoing some treatments.
I personally thought that the hospital's name was awesome. Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. Good stuff. (Jeff is almost 19..... That's why the name is so funny)
The girls were so excited that we got to ride on a bus to get to and from the hospital. It was their first time on a bus.
Chip's mom was staying at the Ronald McDonald House while Jeff was in the hospital.
The Ronald McDonald House has a tender spot in my heart. It has helped my family out so often while Jeff has been in and out of hospitals. It's a home away from home for the families that stay there. My parents-in-law have stayed there for like 4-6 months at a time!
Everyone in the House is in the same boat. Sick and ailing children. Some getting better, some will never come home. It is a house of understanding, love and reflection.
Because it houses families for months, sometimes years at a time, they really make it feel like home. In the back is a huge play ground, usually for the siblings of sick kids (as most of the sick ones are to ill to play). My kids decided to take full advantage of their own personal playground for the afternoon.
I was also really humbled and felt a deep sense of gratitude for the health and well being of my own children.
Collin and his family have been staying at the RMH for over 2 months now. His older sister who's 14 had a heart transplant. She was recovering okay, but then her body started rejecting her new heart. I got to sit with her for quite a while and talk with her. She was at peace with what was going on with her body. She believes in God, and knows that He will look out for her. About 2 weeks ago she was in a coma and now she was up and walking and starting to feel better.
What an amazing kid. I hope her strength keeps up, She can do so much good in this world!
Another family that I talked to had been staying at the Cleveland RMH for the past 15 months. Yes, over a YEAR. They are from Haiti. Not only are they away from their real home, but they are also away from all of their loved ones.
If you are wondering about how you can make an impact on these families who stay at Ronald McDonald houses, here's a few ideas on how you can help:
These families need a break from reality.
While we were up there last night, a sweet family brought two Wii's and ran a Wii bowling tournament! Fun! They bought prizes, tons of snacks, juice boxes, soda, yarn and pony beads for necklaces for the little ones, embrodery floss to teach us how to make those really fun friendship bracelets, and most importantly they brought their time.
They were at the RMH for over 4 hours serving the people there. Loving them. Asking to take their pictures so that as a family they could remember who to pray for.
The Ronald McDonald houses also run on volunteers. I know that the house here in Columbus only has three full paid staff members. Most of the work is dependant on people outside doing it.
People volunteer to bring Meals for the whole house daily. You can either bring it in, or cook it there. They have fully functioning and huge kitchens.
Housekeeping. It's suggested that the families who live at the house do chores to keep up the work. But let's face it. If your child was sitting in a hospital bed and you were far from home the last thing that you'd want to do after long and hard days are vaccuming floors and washing linens.
Our Young Women's program at church went in several times and cleaned our Columbus House. We even organized their supply closets so they would know what they needed and what exactly they had.
Come in with your families and bake a treat for the house. Who doesn't like cookies?
Donations. Every RMH has a 'want' list. It can be anywhere from movies, games, books, soap, and other bath products, phone cards, toys, batteries, dish soap to arts and crafts supplies. Usually their list is posted on the websites, but if it isn't, call. I'm sure you help is needed.
I am going to be sending up some Thomas the Trains to the Cleveland house. They have 3 train tables complete with tracks, and no trains.
Time. Why not donate your time to teach a cute little arts and crafts project to the siblings of sick kids? Read to siblings, play games with them. I am sure that all of the parents there are wanting a break. With all that worrying about their child in the hospital the parents are also dealing with being the only one there for their other kids as well.
If you can't do any of this, but still want to help in some way, and you drink Soda Pop.... you can donate your Soda Pop Tabs. The RMH recyles the tabs and that is how they recieve a lot of their funding.
Jeni's
The other week Chip, Maggie and I went on a grand adventure to a place called North Market here in Columbus. What a fun experience! (I'll have to post pictures of that when I go again.... I forgot my camera when we went the first time!) Our favorite part was discovering a wonderful new ice cream place called Jeni's. Can we just collectively say "Wow!"? Ohh my heck. It is the most delicious ice cream I have ever, ever eaten. Some of the flavors seem a bit weird... I mean Goat Cheese w/ Roasted Cherries? Seriously it was some good stuff. I found out that they have a few locations, one less than 10 miles from us (Okay, I realize to most people 10 miles seems far for ice cream, but I would probably go 50 miles to get this stuff!)
After our North Market experience, of which I got Salted Caramel Ice Cream and Dark Cocoa Gelato and Chip got the Black Currant Yogurt and Dark Cocoa Gelato, we've totally been craving it like no other. So I decided while the kids went to bed I'd go get some for Chip and I.
I'm about to take you on my adventure:
(Chip got this flavor this time)
This is my absolute FAVORITE flavor that they have. You keep craving it. After you eat it, you can't stop thinking about it. I might have even had a dream or two about it.
This just gives you a feel about how the store is. It's trendy, chic, way super cool.
While I was sampling all of the yummy ice cream the lady told me that next time I was in (which will be very soon), I should try a sundae. Aparently they make from scratch their caramel and fudge sauces! I tried the caramel one. I could have died and gone to heaven. It tastes just like a fresh, warm, homemade caramel. Only liquid.
I might have to get a part time job there this summer. It'll be the only way to feed my new fetish.
Come to Columbus, We'll go to Jeni's.

Another Child of mine.
Since I didn't want to forget what Maggie said, I remembered there was something that I didn't want to forget about Alli too.
A few Sunday's ago Chip had to say home with Maggie from church. I rarely just get a chance to spend time with Alli one on one, so I thought this would be awesome for us.
As Sacrament meeting began Alli noticed on my wrist a little red dot on my wrist. (I've always called them 'tit warts' as that is what my dad refers to his as, but I just learned on google that they are actually called a Cherry Angioma). Alli looked very concerned at this new dot on the top of my wrist (it came in probably a month or so ago), and asked me very somberly "Mom, did you swallow a ladybug?". At first I wanted to bust out laughing, but I decided to go along with it. I just said "Yes Alli, but only on accident." Alli was bound and determined to free the ladybug that was trapped under the skin of my wrist. She whispered in my ear that she was going to push on it and tell it to fly away. So she did. It didn't budge. Then she told me to open my mouth really wide, so it could see the light and then it'll want to fly out while she was pushing it. I agreed to do the task. As I opened my mouth really wide (during a song thankfully) Alli was pushing on my little red dot urging it to follow the light. At this point I had tears in my eyes I was holding back my laughter. Finally she said "Mom, I think it must have died. Don't swallow another ladybug ever again okay?" "Okay Alli, I will try my hardest not to do it again."
She still gets a sad look on her face whenever she sees the dead ladybug on my wrist.
This Child of Mine.
Chip told me this morning about something that Maggie did. I just thought I'd write it down, because it's so funny and I don't want to forget it.
Sunday Maggie ran up to Chip.
Maggie (whispering): Dad, I have a secret!
Chip: Ohh yeah?
Maggie (still whispering): I love you dad. I kiss you! (as she kisses him), I eat boogers.

The Verge
Today I was on the verge of a melt down. I think if we had a bomb shelter handy, my children would have gladly have run for cover and hunkered down until the storm passed.
I think it all stems from this past week. Instead of doing my wifely duties and cleaning the house and keeping it organized all week, I've been actually spending time with my kids and enjoying them. Last week was full of storytimes, park play dates, lunch downtown with dad, you know... quality family time. I think the only thing I did was laundry. Even then, I just washed and put it on the couch. Not fold, iron, or put away.
Today I woke up and realized, my house looked like a tornado had touched down right in my living room. Today I cleaned the my room, girl's room, both bathrooms, ironed 2 weeks worth of clothes, did about 5 loads of laundry, did a mountain of dishes, picked Chip's car up from the shop (yep... we finally have it back!... welcome home little car... welcome home), actually cooked dinner, did a little grocery shopping trip, cleaned the living room, etc... I don't think I even sat down until 8pm when the kids went to sleep.
Needless to say, I was a bit crabby when I picked Alli up from school and the first thing I heard the girl's say to each other was "DON'T TOUCH ME!". Then Alli decided that since we were in Chip's Grand Vitara and she could reach the door handle.... so she just opened up the car door right up, WHILE WE WERE DRIVING AT 50 MPH!. I almost flipped my lid. At the grocery store both girls were running up and down the isles.Neither of them would listen to me. I might just have well been invisible to them. I almost asked the nice police officer at the door if he wouldn't be willing to lock my children up until I was ready to deal with them again.
I sure hope that while I'm sleeping tonight, my nerves have a chance to calm down and chill out. I hope to be a happier mommy tomorrow. Heck, I might even go to story time.

Learnin' Spanish
Last week my friend and I went to Barnes and Noble's story time with our girls. Maggie decided that she needed to look at a Spot book. That Spot book had the lift and find flaps on it. No biggie right? No biggie, until she ripped off one of the lift flaps! I guess Barnes and Noble's isn't like the library. They just can't tape it up and stick the book back on the shelf. Long story short. We now own a new Spot book. The only problem with the book? It's in Spanish.
I think this is a mixed blessing. I have absolutely no knowledge of the Spanish language except for frijoles (beans), Taco, & Burrito. So I really can't read it to the kids. My pronunciation would be so bad that I bet one of our Hispanic neighbors would probably come and flog me with a bat until I stopped butchering their native language.
Chip however served his mission in Guatemala. He is still fluent in Spanish. He has been having fun reading this book to the girls. Maggie is especially into it (as you can tell by the picture).
I don't think we'll go to story time again at Barnes and Nobles for a while. $6.99 (plus tax) per 45 minute session just doesn't seem cost effective. At least they gave out Dixie cups of pretzels to offset that cost.
The Problem
Dinner tonight was BBQ Chicken Pizza.
I overheard Alli talking to Maggie about it.
I overheard Alli talking to Maggie about it.
Alli: Hey Maggie, Come here.
Maggie: Okay Alli!
Alli: Look at this. It looks NASTY.
Maggie: Ohhhhh.
Alli: If you eat this Maggie, You'll be nasty forever.
Maggie: Yeah.
Maggie: Okay Alli!
Alli: Look at this. It looks NASTY.
Maggie: Ohhhhh.
Alli: If you eat this Maggie, You'll be nasty forever.
Maggie: Yeah.
I think I figured out why Maggie hasn't been wanting to try new things lately.
She just doesn't want to be nasty forever.

The Flub
Bowl #1 (Make it bigger than a cereal bowl)
1- 4oz bottle of glue (I used target brand, So I don't think it matters what kind)
4oz water
10-12 drops of food coloring
Bowl #2
One cup warm water
1 Tablespoon Borax. (It needs to be Borax, no substitutions)
In bowl #1, pour one bottle of glue into bowl. Fill that same glue bottle with warm water (shake around to try and get the rest of the glue hanging on to the sides of the bottle). Dump water into the glue. Add food coloring. Mix thoroughly.
In bowl #2, mix warm water and Borax together. Wait until Borax is dissolved. (or at least mostly dissolved)
Pour Water/Borax mixture into the glue mixture bowl. With a wooden or rubber spatula mix together for about 1 minute. There is tons of excess water left over, I just poured that out. Ditch the spatula at that point and start kneading it by hand. In about 2 minutes of kneading your flubber will begin to look/feel like flubber. Knead it until not sticky.
Enjoy!
My kids have probably played about 6 of the last 48 hours with this stuff!
**Word of Caution**
Flubber will stick to clothing and carpet. This is a short sleeve/table kind of activity.

Bad Karma
I think I have some bad karma floating around me lately. I don't know what I did or whom I offended, but for some reason the great car gods have not been smiling down upon me.
Today's Case and Point:
I dropped my new van off today to get the brakes redone. They felt sorry that I had to wait around till they were done, so the car dealership offered a loaner car for me to drive. That was pretty nice of them. They pulled around a Ford Taurus. (Not my favorite car, and certainly not as cool as Chip's loaner car... but at least it has 4 wheels.) I get Maggie buckled into her car seat and then get into the car myself. Start the engine. Nothing. It wouldn't even turn over. What in the heck?? They just pulled the car around for me to get into! A garage worker guy there saw my situation and came over and very scientifically deduced that it was a dead battery. I think that because I didn't like the Taurus, it didn't like me.
The dealership then pulled another car around for me. This time an Impala. At least it looked better than the Taurus. They left the car running just in case it didn't magically want to start for me. I told them that if it wouldn't start when I was coming to pick my van up, I was calling for an SOS. They just laughed.
Two hours go by. I get the call. 'Mrs. Kohrman, your car is ready and waiting for you. I guess when they were getting the car ready to sell, they put new rotors and brakes on the rear, but on the front they just put some cheap-o break pads on the car. We put in some premium break pads and rotated your rotors for you.'. "Great" I said, and then proceeded to get into the Impala to pick my van up. Once everyone was in the car and buckled, I try starting the car. Nothing. I was starting to feel a little panicked! I couldn't have broken this car too! Try again. Sign in relief as the car roars to life.
I guess today's blessing was that they didn't charge me for the new brakes.
I wonder if my car secretly hates me too. How do you say " I wanna be friends" to your car? Premium oil? A nice 'Little Tree' air freshener in my car's favorite scent? Hand Turtle Wax job?
Whatever it is I need to figure it out.
I just want my bad car karma to go away for a while.
Whomever I upset, I just want to say I'm sorry.

I Need Feedback
At my work we strive to help each customer to the best of our abilities and to make their transactions as easy and pleasant as banking can get. We get customer service scores daily from an outside vendor that surveys our customers. As hard as we are trying we just can't seem to reach our ideal customer satisfaction number. We have thought of everything from candy, customer appreciation days, sending our customers letters of our appreciation for their business, we greet every customer with a smile, say their name during the transaction, etc.... and still our customer service score doesn't go up, and sometimes it even goes down! Frustrating.
So I have a few questions to ask each of you, in order for me to bring some feedback back to my team so we can better ourselves:
1. What is it that makes you stay with your current bank?
2. What do you like about your bank?
3. What do you not like about your bank?
4. How often do you switch banks? Are you a "lifer' or do you get swayed by promotions by other banks (such as $100 free if you switch)?
5. What is your favorite feature about your bank? (bill pay/a lot of ATM's/hometown feel/etc)
6. Do you have any suggestions to me about how to make my branch rock? (which it totally does!!)
Any input would rock my socks.
Thanks guys!

Positive or Negative
Negative:
Getting told that Chip's car that has been in the shop for 7 days already still isn't ready because they ordered the wrong part.
Negative:
Getting told that the new part that they have to order is $1000 MORE expensive than the part that they thought they needed. Bringing the total to over $3000 (yes, that's right) to fix the stupid car.
Positive:
The shop calling us up saying that they found a used part that has the same warranty of the new part for only $750, bringing the total to fix the car down to $1550.
Negative:
Getting the used part sent to them and installing it would take another 3-4 days.
Positive:
After ranting about how this is a huge inconvenience as we have been juggling with only one car, they offered a courtesy car to us for free.
Positive:
The car is a 2009 Hyundai Sonata with less than 2000 miles on it. (Fun!)

Positive:
Maggie crawling in bed this morning with me to snuggle.
Negative:
She also brought a juice box with her. While crawling over me, she squirted 1/2 of a Juicy Juice all over my face, pillow, hair, and sheets.

She new she was busted, so she gave me a total winning smile and said "I love you Mom!"
Negative:
She also brought a yogurt that had already been opened into my room. It spilled all over the sheets, floor, and my nightstand.

Positive:
She felt extremely sorry about it and called to apologize.

As a punishment she was grounded from eating any sweets until Sunday. (This is her currency)
Negative:
Alli went upstairs to pout. While she was upstairs, she found a box of Girl Scout cookies (Thin Mints) and ate an ENTIRE 'roll' of them!
Positive:
After being busted she drew a picture of a gray heart and asked if she had a hard heart (like a rock) just like the Lamanites. She then drew a picture of a rainbow heart and said she wanted to have a good heart just like the Nephites. At least she's trying.
Positive:
She's understanding the scriptures when we read them and not just mindless listening.

St. Patty's Day
I've never been a huge person into St. Patty's Day. I'm not Irish... so it doesn't pertain to me that greatly. Before today, I have only ever been to one St. Patrick's Day parade, and that was in New York City in 2001 (Which we stumbled upon quite by accident).
At school, Alli has been learning about St. Patrick's Day and has been quite excited about it too. She has colored her fair share of pots of gold, rainbows, and leprechauns.
Yesterday after school, we had to go to and get green nail polish just to make sure that we wouldn't get pinched today.
I have lived in Columbus for almost 7 years now. Every year they have a big parade. I have never gone. So today, I decided why not! Chip works right on the parade route, so it was super easy for him to join us in our festivities.

Maggie was excited all morning about going to the parade. Once she saw all the people, she changed her mind and was extremely shy. She wouldn't even look at me! For a solid 20 minutes before the parade started she buried her face in Chip's shoulder and her hands in his armpits. What a weird kid if you ask me!
Once the actual parade started she loosened up a bit and started to enjoy herself.
I'm assuming that this is St. Patrick himself? I could be wrong. He was at the beginning of the parade, so he must be important.
Like Chip's green pants? The lesson of this story is never let a man go to the thrift store by himself . (He actually bought these when he was teaching a color theory class at OSU. He looked stunning!) Ohh yeah, and he is actually wearing them ALL DAY.
Poor little German boy thinking he's Irish.
For the past week or so Maggie has had an obsession of Chip's arm hair. She has a fetish of rubbing his hairy arms up and down her cheek. It must be something comforting.
I thought it just looked sweet.
Our Mayor Michael B. Coleman. (surrounded by his body guards.... what mayor has body guards? None in Idaho that I know of... lol)
This was awesome. There were three people dressed like this. It was advertisement for a balloon party company. I thought it was way clever.
Don't ask. I have no idea why these guys in sashes were hanging around a weird guy in armor pointing spears at people. It was funny though.
Poor guy didn't have anything to hold on to up on the roof of that car. I was just waiting to see that bug getting squished on someone's windshield.
I don't know if these were mini horses or dogs? Personally I thought they might have been a magical creature straight out of the Harry Potter series. I don't think I'd want to meet up with one of them in a dark alley.
One of my favorite parts of the parade:
The Germania Sing und Sport Society.
(I think the German's were jealous that they didn't have a parade too.... so they jumped right in the Irish parade.)
The old lady playing the accordion on the fire truck was jammin'. It made me want to emulate her when I get old.
Again, I am not sure what is going on here. It was all I could do to stop Chip from joining them. He's always had a fetish for dressing up as a knight. It must be one of those Monty Python things.
I am really glad that I finally decided to go to another St. Patrick's Day parade (on purpose). It was a ton of fun! I'm pretty sure we'll be going again next year too :)
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all!

I'd Love To Know....
What did you guys think of the website that I posted up earlier in the week. I'd love to hear HONEST opinions.
(It's okay really... I want honest. Is it funny? To creepy? Did you 'get' it or not? Would you ever re-visit the website?)

First Pedicure
Very last minute (like 40 minutes before the shop closed and the night before my mom left to go back home), I decided to take my mom to get her first pedicure. She has never done this wonderful thing before!
I have inherited my 'fungus feet' from her. We have huge callouses on our heals that crack and bleed... lots of fun. Our feet don't look quite human.
This was a little out of my mom's comfort zone as she isn't a fan of people who like touching other people's feet, but she did a wonderful job.

My mom is one of the least ticklish people in the world. It was hilarious to see that when she is getting a pedicure it tickles her! She couldn't stop laughing for some of it! Good times.
I forgot to take end pictures of my mom's cute little freshly painted red toes.
You'll just have to take my word for it that after all was said and done she had 'human' feet again and her toes were adorable.
Maybe we'll make this a tradition every time she comes to visit.
Love you Mom!
